When Jeff Mason and his friends form the Grave Dancer's Club they're looking for a way to end their summer boredom. Soon tiring of simply telling ghost stories, they decide to investigate a sighting for themselves. Not really expecting to see a ghost, the four friends encounter something far worse than a mere haunting. Caught up in a mystery involving unsolved deaths from as far back as the civil war, the Grave Dancer's Club soon learns their own lives are in danger. What is the mysterious "wasting disease" that's been claiming lives in Corinth, Mississippi, for over 150 years? And how far will they have to go to keep from being the next victims?

So behind on my offers to read and review, but I finally had a chance to finish a book on my list last night. In fact, this is one of the novels I purchased at the HWA/WHC conference down in New Orleans last month, GRAVE DANCERS CLUB, by James Gurley. A YA novel published with Angelic Knight Press.
"Fourteen-year-old Jeff Mason is unknowingly plunged into a dark secret, a terrible evil that's been awakened in his local town. With the help of his friends who've formed a team notably titled, The Grave Dancer's Club, these teens are about to learn there are more things to be afraid of then just some local ghosts.
James has cleverly written a fun and engaging story that brought me back to my crazy and twisted times as a kid, being a part of our own group of wild teens, looking for adventures in abandoned houses or eerie decrepit-looking graveyards. We searched and pondered, and I guess we hoped we'd bump into a ghost or demon while out on our crazy endeavors. Hell, we were just adrenalin-seeking adventurers out for some fun and giggles. James' characters fulfilled this time for me again, taking me on their own harrowing discovery, and I felt the same intensity that followed them page-for-page. Watch out my reader buds, this book has some twists that will no doubt catch you off guard.
Two bony thumbs up and a special ringing of the jester's bell, for this engaging and fun YA read.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I've always wanted to write a novel set in my hometown of Corinth, Ms. using some of its Civil War heritage. I tried to remember some of my youth and let it flow into my characters.
